NIGERIA-eligible goalkeeper Tobi Oluwayemi has suffered another injury setback at his Austrian club Admira Wacker where he is currently out on a season-long loan from Scottish giants Glasgow Celtic.
Tobi, 20, the younger brother of 2021 Super Eagles invitee Joshua Oluwayemi, joined Celtic's feeder club a month ago in search of regular playing opportunities. His chances of playing at Celtic Park were limited due to the fact that the likes of Joe Hart, Scott Brain and Benjamin Siegrist were all ahead of him in manager Brendan Rodgers' pecking order of goalkeepers at the Hoops.
Four days after joining from Celtic, Tobi, an England U20 international was named in the matchday squad as Admira Wacker were held to a 1-1 draw by Sturm Graz II in a league game. Since then, he has not been called up for back-to-back games against FAC, SKN St Pölten and TSV Hartberg due to his recent injury.
According to the medical team at Admira Wacker the Anglo-Nigerian youngster is recovering from a knee injury. In the second half of the 2022/23 season, Oluwayemi's loan spell at League of Ireland Premier Division side Cork City was cut short after just two matches due to a groin injury that he sustained.
He was highly rated by former Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou, who included him in match day squads for the Europa League and Europa Conference League. Oluwayemi joined Celtic in February 2019 from the Tottenham Hotspur academy and has a year left on his contract with the Scottish Premiership champions.
