PDP members of Ekiti State House of Assembly say Fayose told them to cooperate with Fayemi

FORMER Ekiti State governor Ayo Fayose directed the members of the Ekiti State House of Assembly top work with incoming Governor Kayode Fayemi despite him being a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) according to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Last month, Dr Fayemi, who served as governor between 2010 and 2014 before losing to Governor  Fayose, managed to regain the state for the APC. He defeated deputy governor Professor Kolapo Olusola Eleka, who stood on behalf of the PDP, who was backed by Governor Fayose.

However, upon assuming office, Governor Fayemi inherited a state house of assembly packed with PDP members. In 2014, when Governor Fayose assumed office, the Ekiti State House of Assembly was filled with APC members and for about six months, he was involved in a bitter confrontation with legislators, forcing them to flee from the state.

According to the PDP, in a bid to avoid a similar scenario this time around, Governor Fayose told assembly members not to frustrate the incoming state government. Denying that they had decamped to the APC, several of the assemblymen said they remained PDP stalwarts but were working with Governor Fayemi as directed by Mr Fayose for the good of Ekiti State.

Deputy speaker, Hon Adewumi Olusegun, said: “We remain committed members of the PDP as against insinuations in some quarters that we have decamped to APC. We make bold to say that our support for the state governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi was at the instance of the out-gone Governor Ayodele Fayose who directed that we should co-operate with the governor elect then in the interest of Ekiti State.

“It was on this premise of the advice that we acted because Ekiti agenda is bigger than any individual or political party.”

He added that Senator Abiodun Olujimi is the most eminently qualified at the moment to be the leader of the PDP in the state as she is the highest federal political office holder.  He described those having a different opinion as mischievous, lazy and political jobbers as there is no contest about the leadership of the party since the position is not contested for but earned.
