Coalition of Pro-Biafra Agitators passes vote of no confidence in five southeastern governors

GOVERNORS of the five states that make up the southeast geo-political zone have been denounced and accused of failing the region by a coalition of pro-Biafra agitators who met yesterday and passed a vote of no confidence in them.

Since President Muhammadu Buhari assumed office in 2015, pro-Biafran groups have stepped up their agitation to recreate the defunct Republic of Biafra that existed briefly between July 1967 and January 1970. Wanting Nigeria's 30m Igbos to break away and form a sovereign state, many of them are opposed to the elections taking place in February next year, saying they are an imposition on the southeast geo-political zone.

Yesterday, several of these pro-Biafran groups met and issued a communiqué at the end of their gathering in which they said the five governors of the region had failed the people. Organisations that attended the meeting included the Biafra Independence Organisation, Igbo Revolutionary Movement, Eastern People Renewal, Biafra Clergy Network  and the Biafra Security Network.

Claiming that the governors had failed  woefully in the affairs of Ndigbo, they said they met with some stakeholders in the zone before they took  the decision to denounce them. Also, the pro-Biafran groups vowed to stop the governors seeking re-election from realising their ambitions.

“Having waited for southeast governors to commence work on the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the palace of the father of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and the  non-condemnation of  the third phase of the Operation Python Dance which the Nigerian Army is planning to commence before Christmas in Igboland, we the Coalition of Pro-Biafra Agitators groups hereby withdraw our earlier support  for southeast governors. We have resolved that the governors – Dave Umahi (Ebonyi State), Okezie Ikpeazu  (Abia State)  and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi  (Enugu State) will not return as governors in Igboland again.

“Governors Rochas Okorocha  (Imo State)  and Willie Obiano  (Anambra State)  are colossal failures, cowards and incompetent to be Igbo political leaders. Having consulted widely on the political aspirations of our people, we have established that  the southeast governors are completely disconnected with the people on good governance and they are serving the Hausa/Fulani oligarchy. We are ashamed of them.”
