Uche Nwosu confident that court shall declare him APC gubernatorial candidate for Imo State

IMO State gubernatorial aspirant Uche Nwosu has expressed confidence that he will be confirmed as the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate before next year's elections despite his rival Senator Hope Uzodinma's name being forwarded for now.

Over the last few weeks, Governor Rochas Okorocha has been involved in a bitter spat with several members of his APC in Imo State over his plans to anoint his son-in-law Uche Nwosu as his successor. In a development that has divided the party in the state, some members of the party are backing Senator Uzodinma as the APC gubernatorial candidate and they got their wish as the national secretariat forwarded his name to the Independent National Electoral Commission (Inec).

However, Governor Okorocha and Mr Nwosu are challenging this decision, saying that they won a free and fair primary. Chidi Ibe, Mr Nwosu's campaign director, added that for submitting Senator Uzodinma's name to Inec, APC chairman Adams Oshiomhole has arrogated to himself the right to determine the future of Imo State.

Speaking yesterday at the Sam Mbakwe Airport in Owerri, Mr Nwosu said that he has no doubt that he will fly the party’s ticket in the 2019 governorship election. He dismissed as unfounded, reports that he is defecting from the APC to another party where he hopes to actualise his ambition.

Mr Nwosu said: "Senator Hope Uzodinma will not be governor of the state as Uzodinma is a tenant in APC. I am the lawful governorship candidate of APC in Imo state but our national chairman did not respect the  rule of law and the constitution of our party in substituting my name for senator Hope Uzodinma.

“The records are very  clear, I won the first primary election on October 2, I also won the second primary held on October 6 and the records are there. We will get justice in court, my name shall be on the ballot and I shall be announced as the APC governorship candidate in Imo state."

He added that there is no truth in the rumour that he has dumped the APC for the Democratic Alternative. According to Mr Nwosu, he is a founding member of party and shall lead the APC to victory in Imo state in 2019.
