Andy Uba says some of those standing against him are illiterates who cannot even spell their names correctly

ANAMBRA South Senatorial District All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Senator Andy Uba has dismissed his opponents in next months' elections saying he will sweep to victory because some of those standing against him are illiterate and cannot spell their names.

In a bizarre contest, Senator Uba is up against his younger brother Chief Chris Uba who is standing as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP candidate and possibly Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (Apga), although his candidacy is still subject to a court ruling. Senator Uba, who is the incumbent senator representing the district, claimed that some of his opponents could not even write their names correctly.

He made the claim in Uga in Aguata Local Government Area of the state during the inauguration of his campaign. When asked why he was seeking third term in the Senate, Uba explained that a senator performs better with experience.

Senator Uba said: “The senate is a serious place to be. it is not a place for traders but what we see is that some people contesting the position with me cannot write their names and they want to be at the senate. It is disheartening that these young men who cannot write their names have abandoned their business to vie for political positions.

"This should not be so as the senate is not for traders or neophytes. Any illiterate trader who goes to the senate will not be able to sponsor a single bill in four years.

“Today, I can tell you that as a senator, I have sponsored the highest number of bills. The senate is not for illiterates and inexperienced persons and for you to be reckoned with in the senate, you must be a ranking senator."

He expressed optimism that the APC would win all the elections in Anambra State. Senator Uba added that President Muhammadu Buhari had done well for the southeast and the February 16 election would be a payback time.

“Buhari has won the presidential election but I am asking the people of Anambra State to be part of this historic victory by coming out en masse  to vote for the APC all the way in the elections,” Senator Uba added.
