Nigerian born Councillor Chika Amadi suspended from Labour Party for homophobic remarks

NIGERIAN-born councillor Chika Amadi has been suspended from the Labour Party for making intolerant homophobic comments about lesbians and gays by describing them as paedophiles.

Councillor Amadi, who has been a member of in Harrow Council since 2014, has been accused of spreading anti- lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) messages on her social media accounts. She recently posted a message on Twitter describing gay pride marchers as paedophiles.

In the message, Councillor Amadi’s Twitter account shared a story from Christian news website LifeSiteNews about nude men at a Gay Pride event in Toronto forcing a little girl to cover her eyes. Following complaints about the message, the Labour Party suspended the councillor and pledged to investigate matters further.

Her tweet read: “This is nothing but paedophilia being labelled liberalism adults polluting children with their senselessness.”

When other Twitter users accused her of homophobia, Councillor Amadi replied: “Evil. If you dare walk naked in front of my child God will give you terrible assignment that will put you to perpetual sleep. Be warned.

“You did not vote me in and you cannot remove me. Keep your mouth where your money is. Keep busy and stop nosing around.”

Members of the Labour Campaign for LGBT rights said the offensive, distasteful and homophobic remarks were not acceptable from a councillor. Chris Ward, the chair of LGBT Humanists UK, led calls for Councillor Amadi to be suspended.

Shortly after the calls, a Labour spokeswoman said: “Chika Amadi has been suspended from the Labour Party pending an investigation.”
