APC governorship candidate's agent in Benue State arrested by EFCC with millions of naira

ECONOMIC and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) officials have arrested an All Progressives Congress (APC) agent in Benue State with millions of naira said to belong to the party's gubernatorial candidate Emmanuel Jimeh.

Today, Benue State goes to the polls to elect a new governor in what is seen as a two-horse race between incumbent Governor Samuel Ortom of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Mr Jimeh of the APC. With the race being very tight, it is uncertain who will win,. although in the presidential elections, the PDP narrowly won the state.

According to the EFCC, the agent was caught with the cash in Makurdi, the state capital and subsequently arrested. Already, the agency has posted a picture of the suspect on Facebook, saying that investigations into what the cash was meant for are ongoing.

An EFCC spokesman said: “At the North Bank Area, Makurdi, a man was caught with large bags containing lots of money. While trying to arrest him, officers of the commission were attacked and vehicles vandalised. Information gathered confirms that the money belongs to Emmanuel Jimeh, the gubernatorial candidate of the APC in Benue state.”
