Nollywood actor Desmond Elliot returned to Lagos State House of Assembly in landslide win

NOLLYWOOD star Desmond Elliot has been returned to the Lagos State House of Assembly to represent the Surulere I constituency after coasting to victory as an All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate yesterday.

 

In a massive victory, Hon Elliot scored 15,357 votes, while his nearest rival, Benjamin Olasunkanmi, of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), scored 3,628 votes. Dr Bolajoko Dixon-Ogbechi, the constituency returning officer, from the University of Lagos, made the declaration at the Surulere Local Government Area Collation Centre in Lagos.

 

She said: "Desmond Olusola Elliot of APC having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of votes is hereby declared winner and is returned elected. The total number of votes cast is 20,330, while the results of six units at Igbaja/ Stadium with RA number 06 were cancelled.

 

"They were cancelled due to over voting, so the total number of votes cancelled in the affected areas were 4,091.

 

According to Dr Dixon-Ogbechi, Shitta-Bey Oluwarotimi of the Alliance for Democracy came third with 116 votes, while Dawodu Oluwaseyi of the Accord Party came fourth with 65 votes and Makanjuola Olaseni of the Yes Party came fifth with 59 votes. Dr Dixon-Ogbechi stated that the total number of registered voters in the constituency was 134,939.

 

Accredited voters totalled 20,340, while valid votes cast added up to 19,357 as the total number of rejected votes was 973. Hon Elliot, 45, who studied economics at Lagos State University and graduated in 2003, was first elected into the Lagos House of Assembly in 2015.
