Aisha Buhari visits victims of collapsed building who are recovering at Lagos Island General Hospital

FIRST lady Hadjia Aisha Buhari has visited the victims of the recent collapsed building in the Ita Faaji area of Lagos who are recovering at the Lagos Island General Hospital to sympathise with them.

 

On Wednesday, the Ita Faaji building on Lagos Island which also houses a primary school of about 100 pupils, caved in on itself, killing students, staff and a few parents. It is believed that about 20 people died in the tragedy with dozens more injured and taken to hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment.

 

Today, Hadjia Buhari visited the hospital to offer her condolences to the victims of the incident and with those still on admission a speedy recovery. While in Lagos, she took time to visit the women and children wards of the hospital, where she prayed to God to grant the families that lost loved ones the fortitude to bear the loss.

 

One of the victims and teacher in the school located in the collapsed building, Miss Easter Samuel, expressed her shock over the incident. Ms Samuel, a 19-year-old teacher, who was receiving treatment in the hospital, prayed to God not to experience such unfortunate incident again.

 

Dr Gani Kale, the chief medical director of the hospital, said 10 children were admitted in the hospital after the incident. He added that three of the patients have been discharged, having been certified as medically fit and there was no case of a referral to another hospital.
