Stoke City's Oghene Etebo joins the list of celebrities offering to pay Success's school fees

STOKE City midfielder Oghenekaro Etebo has joined the growing list of celebrities offering to contribute towards the education of national heroine Success Adegor whose bragged in a recent Youtube video that she would continue to go to school even if flogged for not being able to afford her school fees.

Earlier this month, Success, 7, caught global attention when she defiantly said she will continue going to school even if she was repeatedly flogged for not having her school fees. Like many pupils across Nigeria, Success had been sent home for not being able to afford her school fees, with the threat that she would be beaten if she came to school without paying.

After the video went viral, numerous well-wishers and celebrities have offered to pay Success's school fees, with Etebo now joining their ranks. Etebo, who is due to feature for the Eagles in an African nations Cup qualifier against Seychelles on Saturday and a friendly against Egypt, four days later,  added that his childhood was not much different from that of Success when he grew up in Warri in Delta State

Lamenting her parents’ inability to pay her school fees, Success said she preferred being beaten and allowed to stay in school to being sent home. Moved by her words, Etebo said that he has joined those with similar ideology to contribute his quota to assisting Success through his foundation.

Etebo said: “I remember back then when myself and my sister were serially sent home due to the fact that our parents didn’t have the capacity to sort the bills. I know how it feels, particularly when you see other students who have paid. The amazing thing is that the little girl preferred to be beaten in order to stay back in school and study.”
