Oyo State PDP advises Governor Oyetola not to waste taxpayers money challenging Osun verdict

OYO State's chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on Governor Gboyega Oyetola of Osun State to accept the tribunal verdict which declared Senator Ademola Adeleke the winner of the gubernatorial election and not waste taxpayers money challenging it.

Yesterday, a three-man panel of judges  led by Justice Ibrahim Sirajo ruled that Senator Adeleke of the PDP had defeated Alhaji  Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the September 22 governorship elections. After hearing from all sides, the Osun State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Abuja, declared that Senator Adeleke had been duly elected and should assume office as the governor of Osun State.

Immediately after the ruling, however, Governor Oyetola and the APC said they will appeal the judgement, saying that they are confident it will be overturned. However, PDP has urged the APC to accept the outcome of the tribunal in good faith, saying nothing can be built on nothing.

Alhaji Kunmi Mustapha, the chairman of the Oyo State chapter of the PDP, advised Governor Oyetola not to waste tax payers money on a frivolous legal process at the appeal court but accept the pronouncement of the tribunal in good faith. He also enjoining Chief Adagunodo, the chairman of the Osun State chapter of the PDP and his executive committee not to relent by making sure they are united behind Senator Adeleke in order to protect the mandate given to him by Osun State electorate.

“The Oyo State chapter of PDP has sent a congratulatory message to Senator Ademola Adeleke and Osun State PDP over the election petition tribunal judgment which declared Senator Adeleke as the rightful winner of the Osun governorship election. This is the more reason why the PDP family must continue to pray fervently for the restoration of the magnificent glory of the PDP as it remains the only credible alternative party that is determined to make life meaningful to the suffering masses," Alhaji Mustapha added.

He described the tribunal verdict as an act of God and a clear manifestation that Engineer Seyi Makinde’s victory in the recently concluded Oyo State gubernatorial poll is a harbinger of better days ahead for the PDP in the southwest and Nigeria at large. If the appeal and supreme courts uphold Senator Adeleke's elections, Oyo and Osun states will be the only two across the southwest controlled by the PDP.

Yesterday, the Osun State Governorship Election Tribunal declared that the September 27 2018 rerun election in the state as illegal. It also ruled that the PDP and Senator Adeleke proved that it was the state returning officer who cancelled the results in seven polling units did not have the power to do so.
