Super Falcons set national and African goalscoring record beating Niger Republic 15-0

NIGERIA'S Super Falcons have set a new national footballing record by beating Niger Republic 15-0 in the ongoing West African Football Union (Wafu) tournament currently taking place in Ivory Coast.

With a devastating victory that now moves them into the semi finals, the Falcons scored nine goals in the first half and followed it up with six more upon the restart. In what is turning out to be a good tournament, the Falcons beat Burkina Faso 5-1 in their opening match, so now have six points from two games with 20 goals scored and just one conceded.

On Monday, the team will face Mali in their last group game and are expected to win this with ease, setting up a semi final clash against either Ghana or Ivory Coast. Prior to yesterday's victory, Nigeria's national record was a 9-0 win which the Falcons secured over Sierra Leone in 1994.

This latest victory is also an African continental record with regards to scoring the highest number of goals in a single match in Women’s football on the continent. The Nigeriens had lost their opening group game to Mali 10-0, meaning that they have now conceded 25 goals in just two games.
