Flying Eagles get their World Cup campaign off to good start with 4-0 demolition of Qatar

NIGERIA'S Flying Eagles got their 2019 U20 World Cup campaign off to a brilliant start yesterday with a 4-0 demolition of Qatar in their opening game at the Tycvhy Stadium in Poland.

In a match in which Manchester City teenager Tom Dele-Bashiru, was making his debut after declaring his allegiance to Nigeria, the Flying Eagles totally dominated their opponents with two goals in each half.  In the 12th minute, Nigeria got their noses in front courtesy of a sublime move down the left from fullback Ikouwem Utin, who danced into the Qatari area and crossed a brilliant ball.

Maxwell Effiom was on hand to volley home Utin's cross which the goalkeeper got a hand to but could not stop. Utin was involved again in the second goal as he cut back a low cross for Henry Offia who sent the goalkeeper the wrong way to make it 2-0 in the 24th minute.

That was how it stood until half time but they came out at the break still firing on all cylinders and it was Dele-Bashiru who made it 3-0 in the 68th minute. Aliu Salwaudeen then completed the rout in the 74th minute to hand the Flying Eagles a comfortable 4-0 win in Group that also have Ukraine and the United States.

Nigeria's next game will be against the American side on Monday, May 27, while Ukraine will slug it out against Qatar. In the other group match, the Ukrainians beat the Americans 2-1, meaning that Nigeria now tops the group.
