Armed hoodlums thought to be assassins attack Rochas Okorocha's private residence

FORMER Imo State governor Rochas Okorocha has been the victim of an armed attack after hoodlum invaded his private residence at Ogboko in Ideato South Local Government Area and ransacked the premises.

Mr Okorocha, who left office on Wednesday May 29 after serving for eight years as governor, has been the subject of a lot of controversy over the last four days. Already, some of the structures he erected like the Akachi Tower in Owerri have been pulled down and now, his home has been attacked by men thought to be assassins.

Apparently, the hoodlums overpowered the security guards at the residence and forced their way in. They were then said to have headed straight for Okorocha’s bedroom and ransacked everywhere but did not take any item away.

Sam Onwuemedo, Mr Okorocha's spokesman, said: “The police have moved in to unravel what happened. I don’t think it is proper for me to say anything about the incident in order not to jeopardise their investigation, so let us wait till they complete their work.”

Rabiu Ladodo, the Imo State police commissioner, added: “I am aware of the development but I am not the one handing it. The commander of Oguta is the one handling it.”

Meanwhile, Governor Emeka Ihedioha has said his predecessor did not hand over any documents to him. Governor Ihedioha also said the claim by ex-Governor Okorocha that he left N48.1bn ($132.5m) in the state coffers for the present administration could not be ascertained.
