Oyo and Abia states go for youth as they elect new speakers of their houses of assembly

OYO and Abia states have both elected speakers to preside over the houses of assembly with both of them going for youth as 32-year old Adebo Ogundoyin was voted into office in Ibadan and former Governor Theodore Orji's son Chinedum was elected in Umuahia.

Hon Ogundoyin, the member representing Ibarapa East Constituency emerged the speaker of the ninth Oyo State House of Assembly unopposed and was confirmed with a unanimous voice vote of the 32 members. A graduate of Babcock University, his emergence came about due to a combination of factors including zoning and the fact that he is one of the four returning lawmakers from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Oyo State House of Assembly is dominated by the PDP, which has 26 out of the 32 members. The former ruling party in the state, the All Progressives Congress, has five lawmakers, with the Action Democratic Party having only one member.

In Umuahia, Hon Chinedum Orji representing the Umuahia Central State Constituency has been elected Abia State House of Assembly speaker. His deputy is Hon Ifeanyi Uchendu representing the people of Ohafia South State Constituency.
