Newcastle table formal bid of £9m for Super Eagles winger Dennis Bonaventure

SUPER Eagles winger Dennis Bonaventure could be on his way to England before the close of the current January transfer window after Premier League giants Newcastle United formally tabled a £9m bid for him.

Bonaventure, 22, who is currently playing in the Belgian Juliper League with Club Brugge. who caught the attention of the rest of the world when he scored twice at the Bernabeu when his club held Real Madrid to a 2-2 draw in the Uefa Champions League. Bought in May 2017 on a four-year-deal for €1.2m from Ukrainian club Zorya Luhansk, has two Nigerian caps, making his debut in a 2-2 draw against Ukraine in September last year.

Currently sitting 13th in the Premier League table, Newcastle are struggling to score goals, having only managed 21 in 22 games during the current campaign. As a result, the club is desperate to add to its firepower upfront, particularly as its record signing, the Brazilian Joelinton, who was bought for £40m at the start of the season, has only scored one league goal.

Newcastle have tabled its bid for Bonaventure but Brugge want any move to be put on hold until the summer as they expect other clubs to show interest in the winger who has five league goals from 15 games this season. Brugge believe the Newcastle bid is not good enough even though the player's management team believe the offer represents the current market value of the winger.

For now, Brugge is resolute in its bid to keep him but his representatives are hoping for a breakthrough. His agents  have maintained contact with Newcastle United to force Brugge into making a deal this summer.
