Kelechi Nwakali finally gets his career going as Huesca say he is central to their promotion push

NIGERIAN mercurial playmaker Kelechi Nwakali could have finally got his career back on track after Spanish second division side Huesca decoded to retain his services and use him a main weapon to facilitate its promotion drive.

Nwakali, 21, is one of the most talented Nigerian footballers ever seen, which was acknowledged in 2015 when he won the golden ball at the Fifa U17 Wold Cup. Adjudged to be the best player in the tournament to which he captained Nigeria to victory, Nwakali was immediately signed by Arsenal who subsequently loaned him out to several clubs.

Arsenal had hoped that by now, Nwakali would not only have developed into a top class player but would have also secured enough Nigerian caps to enable him play in the English Premier League. However, Nwakali's career just refused to kick off and his refusal to get playing time forced Arsenal to sell him to Huesca in September last year, in a three-year deal.

Despite joining Huesca, Nwakali's woes have continued as he has barely seen any action and the club had decided to send him out on loan to Spanish third division side Ejea. Apparently, Nwakali has only played five matches over the eight months, so Huesca planned to register him with its B team before loaning him out to Ejea.

However Huesca was forced into a rethink after the midfielder's impressive performance in training with the first team. He even made their squad for the trip to Girona but only as an alternate player due to the fact that his registration is yet to be sorted out.

Huesca, who are currently chasing promotion to the La Liga, have placed Nwakali on strict fitness regime to boost his pace as they believe he can play a role in their promotion push. Currently fourth in the Spanish second division, Huesca are keen to get promotion and club sources indicate that their technical crew believe they have found a gem in the player, who will help them achieve this dream.
