ACTING president Professor Yemi Osinbajo has delayed signing the 2017 budget into law after it was decided to engage in further consultations before assenting to the 2017 appropriation bill.

On May 11, the National Assembly finally passed the bill and on May 19, it was delivered to Professor Osinbajo by Senator Ita Enang, the special assistant to the president on National Assembly matters. Today, Senator Enang revealed that it has been decided to postpone the signing of the bill into law for the time being.

Senator Enang said: “Further to several enquiries regarding action on the 2017 Appropriation Bill by the executive, be please informed that assent to same is not yet scheduled as consultations and engagements are ongoing.”

Earlier this week, there was controversy over who would sign the budget but the senior special assistant on media and publicity to the acting president, Laolu Akande, said his principal would sign the budget. With President Buhari away on a medical vacation, Professor Osinbajo has assumed all the powers of the president.
