Buhari sacks secretary to the federal government Babachir Lawal and replaces him with Mustapha

PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari has sacked secretary to the federal government Babachir Lawal and replaced him with Boss Mustapha after reading the report into impropriety regarding his conduct while in office.

In April this year, Mr Lawal was suspended amid suggestions that he used his office for personal enrichment and President Buhari was perceived to be losing his fight against corruption with some of his key subordinates facing allegations. Vice president Professor Yemi Osinbajo was asked to submit a report on Mr Lawal's conduct and having read the report, President Buhari has now acted.

Also sacked for his role in the scandal are Ayo Oke, the director-general of the National Intelligence Agency. Both men were suspended while the panel headed by Professor Osinbajo investigated the matter and having read the panel's report, President Buhari accepted the recommendation to terminate their appointments.

Mr Mustapha takes over as the new secretary to the government of the federation with immediate effect, although so far, no one has been named to replace Mr Oke. However, President Buhari has approved the setting up of a three-member panel to, among other things, look into the operational, technical and administrative structure of the National Intelligence Agency and make appropriate recommendations.
