Super Eagles hopeful Tosin Adarabioyo named in English Championship Team of the Week

SUPER Eagles hopeful Tosin Adarabioyo has been included in the Sky Bet Championship Team of the Week after putting in superlative performance for his club Blackburn Rovers during their 3-1 home win against Bristol City on Saturday.

 

Born in Manchester, Adarabioyo, 22, is eligible to play for both Nigeria and England and although he has already appeared for the England U19 team, he us yet to decide on his senior international future. A Manchester City player, he is currently on loan to Championship side Blackburn Rovers, where he has put in impressive performances this season.

 

On Saturday, Adarabioyo marked his display by getting on the score sheet, netting Blackburn’s second goal to put them 2-1 ahead. That goal was his third in 28 Championship appearances for Blackburn Rovers this season and the win moved the side to eight position in the league on 56 points, just a point off the play-off places.

 

Adarabioyo joined the youth structure at Manchester City aged five, made his U18 debut for the club aged 14 and was captaining the U18s aged 16.  On 21 February 2016, Adarabioyo made his first-team debut in an FA Cup match against Chelsea and made his Champions League debut on 24 August 2016 as a substitute in a 1–0 win over Steaua București.

 

He joined West Bromwich Albion on loan for the 2018/19 season and on July 2019, he joined Blackburn on loan for the 2019/20 campaign. Adarabioyo scored his first career goal in 2 November in a 2–1 win for Blackburn against Sheffield Wednesday.

 

In February this year, Adarabioyo began talks with Nigeria Football Federation officials about switching his allegiance from England to enable him feature for the Super Eagles internationally. In the past, the defender who gladly acknowledges his Nigerian roots, refused to completely rule out a switch of allegiance to Nigeria, insisting that once he has a settled club career, he will decide.
