Nigerian trio miss out on action today as Premier League postpones Fulham vs Spurs match

NIGERIA's high-flying trio of footballers at English Premiership side Fulham will not be taking to the field today  as the Premier League has postponed their match that was due to take place at Tottenham Hotspurs over coronavirus fears.

Over the last month, Fulham have been in good form, drawing their last four matches and the Nigerian trio of Ola Aina, Tosin Adarabioyo and Ademola Lookman have been immense. Forming the backbone of the team, the trio who have been ever-present, have all been in scintillating form.

Fulham now have 11 points and a win today against Spurs, would have taken the team out of the bottom three. Spurs on the other hand are witnessing a decline in form, picking up just one point from their last three matches and have now dropped to seventh place in the table from being in number one place just a few weeks ago.

Over the last few days, there has been an outbreak of coronavirus at Fulham, forcing the Premier League to call off the fixture after board meeting this morning. It said Fulham asked for the game to be rearranged following a significant rise in positive Covid-19 cases, as well as a number of players showing symptoms.

According to the Premier League,  the move was made following consultation with its medical advisors, adding the decision to postpone the game was taken as a precaution and with the health of players and staff as the priority. This is the third Premier League match to be postponed due to coronavirus after Everton’s game against Manchester City was called off on Monday less than four hours before kick-off.

A Premier League spokesman said: "Fulham lodged a request with the Premier League board to rearrange the fixture following a significant rise in positive Covid-19 cases, as well as a number of players showing symptoms today. The Premier League board has consulted its medical advisors and the decision to postpone the game has been taken as a precaution and with the health of players and staff as the priority.

"The group will now be retested immediately. With low numbers of positive tests across the overwhelming majority of clubs, the Premier League continues to have full confidence in its Covid-19 protocols and being able to continue to play our fixtures as scheduled."

On Saturday, Fulham’s head coach Scott Parker missed the club’s last match at home to Southampton after a member of his household tested positive. Mr Parker went into self-isolation for 10 days having tested negative and returned to training on Monday.
