In 1940, the UK passed its Treachery Act in the wake of the Second World War. I think Nigeria needs a similar law today that carries a penalty of life imprisonment without the possibility of parole

Here are those I would prosecute under this Nigerian Treachery Law 2021:

(1) Any public who appropriates a sum in excess of N1m

(2) Anyone engaged in kidnapping

(3) Anyone espousing ethnic hatred

(4) Anyone espousing religious hatred

(5) Anyone calling for the balkanisation of Nigeria

(6) Anyone promoting religious divisive laws such as Sharia

(7) Anyone espousing homophobic hatred

(8) Anyone caught in possession of an automatic weapon

(9) Anyone involved in rape

(10) Any state governor who after four years in office has not grown his economy by at least 5%

All these offences I listed are acts of economic sabotage which are preventing the Nigerian economy from growing. They scare away investors, divide Nigerians and create an atmosphere of insecurity which inhibits economic activities.

Unlike the British I will not advocate the death penalty, as in 2021, we should be moving away from capital punishment. However, this measure is just as important as the 1940 Treachery Act because Nigeria is facing a far more severe economic crisis today than Britain did during the war.

In 1946, the UK repealed its Treachery Act, so I would advocate that Nigeria reviews her own law every five years. Maybe we can repeal it when we have a gross domestic product of about $2trn.

Believe you me my people, we are currently at war with poverty. Unfortunately we do not realise it and it appears the government is too scared to place the nation on a war footing
