Chelsea hand Nigerian teenage goalkeeper Prince Adegoke his first senior contract

CHELSEA have offered Nigerian teenage goalkeeper Prince Adegoke his first professional contract effectively promoting him to the first team and making him eligible to compete for a starting place in manager Thomas Tuchel's starting line-up.

In July last year, Adegoke, 17, renewed his youth contract at Stamford Bridge, along with compatriot Kelechi Chibueze, resulting in both of them being elevated to Chelsea's U18 team. Impressed with is performance since then, Chelsea have decided to promote Adegoke to the senior team.

Adegoke, who was Chelsea's U16s number one last season, was invited to train with the Nigeria U17 squad in 2019. However, he was unable to honour the invitation, with his father Tony, who was a goalkeeper for Victory High School Lagos during his playing days, saying it was due to contractual obligations.

It is expected that Adegoke will remain with the Chelsea U18s for the rest of the season but is expected to begin training with the senior squad at the end of the current campaign. At the moment, Chelsea's senior goalkeepers include Edouard Mendy, 28; Kepa Arrizabalaga, 26; Willy Caballero, 39 and Karlo Žiger, 19.
