Scottish FA unhappy with strong arm tactics used by NFF boss to woo Watford striker Dapo Mebude

SCOTTISH Football Association officials have complained about the tactics Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) president Amaju Pinnick used to woo new Watford striker Dapo Mebude claiming he used strong arm tactics to secure the youngster.

Mebude, 19, has just joined English Premier League side Watford from Scottish giants Glasgow Rangers, becoming one of five Nigerians at the Hornets. A Scotland-U19 international, Mebude posed for photographs with Mr Pinnick and other Nigerian players at Watford during a recent visit by the NFF boss.

Following the visit, Mebude pledged his senior international future to Nigeria, which did not go down well with the Scottish FA, who had hoped to secure his services. Claiming that Mr Pinnick used strong-arm tactics to hound Mebude into committing to Nigeria, the Scots said the methods used were disrespectful.

According to football website Own Goal, the Scottish FA is claiming that Mebude was ambushed by Mr Pinnick. Having played for the Scottish youth teams right from the U17 level, the Scots appeared not to anticipate this development.

Once regarded as the next big thing in Scottish football, Mebude has been a member of the Scotland U19 since 2018, scoring four goals in 11 appearances. Mr Pinnick described him as a potential Super Eagle, which the Scots found offensive, given that he is currently a member of their youth set up.
