Former Chibok girl and her terrorist husband surrender to Nigerian Army in Borno State

ONE of the former Government Secondary School (GSS) Chibok students and her terrorist husband have surrendered to troops of the Nigerian Army in Borno State seeking to benefit from the government's amnesty programme.

Seven years ago, on April 14, 2014, Boko Haram terrorists invaded the school in Borno State and whisked away about than 276 students. Since then, most of them have been released but many who were married off to Boko Haram commanders volunteered to stay with the terrorists as several of them had even bore children.

Yesterday, one of the abducted pupils and her husband, a Boko Haram-Islamic State of West Africa Province (Iswap) terrorist, surrendered to the Nigerian military. For now, the identity of the female student is being kept secret but it is believed she and her husband have renounced their membership of the terrorist sect.

According to one source, other Boko Haram-Iswap insurgents have voluntarily reached out to the military, indicating their interests to surrender and lay down their arms. This may not be unconnected with the destruction of their enclaves and camps by Nigerian military airstrikes and ground bombardment.

Also, an outbreak of some unknown diseases is also said to be killing the terrorists in their droves coupled with food scarcity. The source added: "In fact, there are many Iswap and Boko Haram members that are willing to surrender as soon as possible and the military and other security services will ensure the needful is done for national security.”
