Ohanaeze Ndigbo commends Nigerian Army for providing security across the southeast

PAN-cultural organisation Ohanaeze Ndigbo has commended the Nigerian Army for its sacrifice in restoring security and peace across the southeast and nation at large following its recent military operations.

 

Of late, there has been an upsurge in violence across the southeast, with armed men regularly attacking police stations, correctional facilities and Independent Nigerian Electoral Commission offices. In response, the federal government has beefed up the security presence in the area, strengthening the number of number of military units and policemen.

 

Professor George Obiozor, the Ohaneze Ndigbo president commended the military for its work when Major General Taoreed Lagbaja, the general officer commanding the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, visited him at his office in Enugu. During the visit, he expressed delight over the commanding officer's visit to Ohaneze House, saying that without peace, nations cannot progress.

 

“Without the armed forces, we will have more problems. They are the pillars of Nigeria’s unity,” Professor Obiozor added.

 

Describing the Nigerian Army as one of the best in Africa, he urged the various armed forces to sustain their efforts toward ensuring peace and security across the country. Responding, Major General Lagbaja, said the army chose to partner all stakeholders to achieve its mandate.

 

Commending the leadership of Ohaneze Ndigbo for advising against the threat by the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra to use force to enforce its planned weekly sit-at-home order in the zone, Major General Lagbaja assured residents of the zone of adequate security. He added that his division would not tolerate any acts that would threaten the prevailing peace in the area.
