Soludo names Oby Ezekwesili as the head of his transition team ahead of his March inauguration

FORMER Central bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor Professor Charles Soludo has appointed ex-minister of education Obiageli Ezekwesili as head of his transition team as he prepares to assume office as the next Anambra State governor.

 

On November 6 last year, Professor Soludo was the declared the winner of the Anambra State governorship elections and is set to take office in March. When he was CBN governor, Professor Soludo worked closely with Dr Ezekwesili, who served as both minister of solid minerals and education in the Obasanjo government.

 

Although there has been no official announcement on the appointment of Dr Ezekwesili, it is believed that her transition team will be inaugurated on January 20. Dr Ezekwesili, a former presidential candidate in the 2019 general election, earned worldwide reputation as a social justice crusader after she led the #BringBackOurGirls campaign in 2014.

 

Standing up to Boko Haram, she launched the campaign after 276 female students were abducted on April 15, 2014, by the terrorists from Chibok town in Borno State. In March 2007, World Bank president Paul Wolfowitz, appointed Dr Ezekwesili as vice president for the Africa.

 

In 2012, Dr Ezekwesili successfully completed her stint as the World Bank vice president, where among other things, she was in charge of the bank's operations of 48 countries across sub-Saharan Africa and supervised a lending portfolio of over $40bn. In addition to this, as a senior economic advisor for Open Society, a group founded by George Soros, she advises nine reform-committed African heads of state including President Paul Kagame of Rwanda.
