Palace and Brighton join in the race to sign Super Eagles fullback Zaidu Sanusi from Porto

ENGLISH interest in Super Eagles fullback Zaidu Sanusi has increased over the last few days with Premier League clubs Crystal Palace and Brighton & Hove Albion signifying an interest in securing his services ahead of the forthcoming season.

Over the weekend, newly promoted English Premier League side Fulham, said it planned to offer Portuguese champions  €12m for the services of Sanusi in the hope of luring him to Craven Cottage. With Palace and Brighton now joining the fray,  Sanusi, 25 could end up leaving Portuguese champions Porto and coming to England next season.

Last season, Sanusi scored three times in 40 appearances for Porto, with one of the goals sealing a vital win over Benfica in May and the league title for the Dragons. Porto are not particularly keen on selling the former Santa Clara defender and any interested club may have to activate the release clause in his contract to complete the deal.

Sanusi has a release clause valued at around €50m in his contract, so any club looking to buy him would need to activate that. Earlier this week, Sanusi featured for 90 minutes as the Super Eagles secured a record 10-0 win over Sao Tome and Principe at the Stade d’Agadir in Morocco on Monday.

An overlapping fullback, Sanusi joined Porto on August 30, 2020, signing a five-year contract with the club and then going on to win the first trophy of his career in December that year then the beat Benfica in the Portuguese Cup final. He has gone on to become a revelation at the club and on May 7 this year, Sanusi scored the only goal to help Porto win its 30th league title.
