Bournemouth midfielder Anyanwu Billing opts for Denmark ahead of Nigeria at international level

BOURNEMOUTH'S Nigeria-eligible midfielder Philip Anyanwu Billing has finally opted out of featuring for the Super Eagles after appearing for Denmark in a competitive game on Monday in a Uefa Nations League match last Monday.

Billing, 26, was born in Denmark to a Nigerian father and a Danish mother and had the opportunity to play for either country. Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) officials have been on his case for a while but he turned down a chance to represent the Super Eagles in 2018 and about a year later, he was called up to the Danish national team, making his debut against Faroe Islands.

However, the midfielder was been miffed after being omitted from Denmark’s Euro 2020 squad and was reconsidering his international future. Billing, who played a significant role in Bournemouth’s return to the Premier League last season could have then made a switch to Nigeria but after featuring in a competitive game in the Nations League this week, his fate has been sealed.

A lanky midfielder, Billing's stock is now rising with him now being a fully fledged international. His time at Bournemouth has seen him impress with the team and under new manager Scott Parker, Billing may be nearing his peak as a footballer after registering 10 goals and 10 assists in 40 games last season.
