London's Metropolitan Police arrest Ike and Beatrice Ekweremadu over planned organ harvesting

OFFICERS of London's Metropolitan Police have arrested a Nigerian couple identified as Ike and Beatrice Ekweremadu over plans conspiring to bring a child to the UK in order to harvest its organs for medical purposes.

Apparently, the man and the woman have the same names and ages as Nigeria’s former deputy senate president Senator Ike Ekweremadu and his wife Beatrice Nwanneka Ekweremadu. So far, it has not been confirmed that it was Senator Ekweremadu and his wife that were arrested.

According to the police, the arrest followed an investigation by the Metropolitan Police’s Specialist Crime team. A police spokesman said: “The investigation was launched after detectives were alerted to potential offences under modern slavery legislation in May 2022.”

He added that the arrested couple were Beatrice Nwanneka Ekweremadu, 55 (10.9.66) of Nigeria, who is charged with conspiracy to arrange/facilitate travel of another person with a view to exploitation, namely organ harvesting. Also arrested was Ike Ekweremadu, 60 (12.05.62) of Nigeria, who is also charged with conspiracy to arrange/facilitate travel of another person with a view to exploitation, namely organ harvesting.

Both individuals  have been remanded in custody and will appear at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court later today. It is believed that the child has been safely rescued and is now in the hands of social services.

“A child has been safeguarded and we are working closely with partners on continued support. As criminal proceedings are now under way we will not be providing further details,” the police added.
