Adeleke's brother warns him that he will get on his back if he starts to derail as governor

OSUN State governor-elect Senator Ademola has been warned by how own brother Dr Deji Adeleke that he will be the first to criticise him if he begins to derail from the vision of bettering the lives of the people once in office.

Earlier this month, after a gruelling two-horse race, Senator Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) floored incumbent Governor Gboyega Oyetola of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). University of Lagos vice chancellor Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, the returning officer for the election, officially declared Senator Adeleke the winner with 403,371 votes.

Governor Oyetola got 375,027 votes, while Action Democratic Party (ADP) candidate Kehinde Atanda came in at a distant third with 10,104 votes, followed by Akin Ogunbiyi of the Accord Party with 4,515 votes. Senator Adeleke won 17 local governments while Governor Oyetola won 13 local governments.

However, Dr Adeleke, the governor-elects' brother and father of Afrobeat musician Davido, said that he will hold the senator to his promises to improve Osun State. Speaking at the eighth convocation ceremony of the Adeleke University over the weekend, the academic added that his brother has no reason to fail because he is not answerable to any godfather.

Dr Adeleke said: “I told the governor-elect and his colleagues that they are lucky because they do not have any godfather to refund any money to, so whatever people contributed for the election is contribution and it’s a sacrifice for a better Nigeria. It is for a better state, so the governor-elect and his colleagues are not under any pressure, the only thing they need to do out there is to go and serve the people.

“I threatened them that I will be the first to call a press conference if I see things going wrong with his government and will be the first to alert the world that your governor has derailed. I’ve also told him and his team not to allow anyone that is not ready to serve into the team or anyone that his focus is to come and look for money to steal from the poor people as Osun is a very poor state.”
