NFF extends Peseiro's in response to Caf decision to postpone Nations Cup until 2024

SUPER Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro is to be granted a one year extension to his contr5act by the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) following the decision of the Confederation of African Football (Caf) to postpone the African Cup of Nations.

In May this year, Portuguese coach Peseiro signed a one-year contract with the NFF which was to be reviewed after the 2023 African Cup of Nations. However, Caf has postponed the tournament, originally scheduled to hold in Ivory Coast in June next year until January 2004 due to unfavourable weather conditions.

June is bang in the middle of the West African rainy season, which is considered an unsuitable time to hold a major tournament. In the light of the development, the NFF has extended Mr Peseiro's contract until after the tournament in 2024 as he will remain in charge of the eagles until then.

So far, two qualifiers have been played with the Eagles defeating Sao Tome & Principe and Sierra Leone in their opening matches. With six points, the three-time Nigeria leads Group A and remain favourites to qualify for Ivory Coast 2024.
