Team Nigeria names it captains for Commonwealth Games ahead of tonight's opening ceremony

TEAM Nigeria has named Nnamdi Innocent and Blessing Oborodudu have been named as the captains of the country's male and female squads ahead of the opening ceremony of the 2022 Commonwealth Games holding in Birmingham.

 

Due to start today, the Commonwealth Games will kick off with a traditional opening ceremony which kicks off at 7.30pm. Taking place at the at Alexander Stadium in Birmingham, the opening ceremony will see Nigeria's flag carried by Nnamdi Chinecherem Prosper and veteran women powerlifter, Oluwafemiayo Folashade.

 

Men's captain Innocent, is one of the leading men’s powerlifters in the team. Women's team captain popular women’s wrestler, Oborodudu was a gold medallist at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia and won a silver medal at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

 

Nigeria has a total of 94 athletes competing in the games across an array of sports that included athletics, boxing, judo, table tennis, weight lifting in wrestling. In the paralympic games, there will be Nigerian participants in athletics, powerlifting and table tennis.
