DSS arrest Boko Haram undercover agent sent to check out military targets in Abeokuta

DEPARTMENT of State Services (DSS) operatives have arrested a Boko Haram undercover agent sent to the Ogun State capital Abeokuta to spy on military facilities with a view to having them bombed.

In a rare show of goof intelligence by Nigerian security operatives, the terrorist who had secured a job as a security guard, was going round surveying limitary barracks. His arrest created tension in the city with most Abeokuta residents into a panicking mood, amid fears that an attack might be imminent.

Yesterday, the suspect, said to be a Boko Haram leader was arrested in the Ijaye area of the Abeokuta metropolis. He was said to have initially tried to resist arrest before he was overwhelmed by the superior power of the DSS operatives.

According to sources familiar with the case, the Boko Haram leader had left Katsina for Abeokuta, where he was employed as a security guard. However, he had since been gathering intelligence for terrorist attacks as he was purposely in Abeokuta to set up terrorists’ cells for kidnapping and terror attacks.

He was said to have done the same in Abuja, as well as Kaduna and Zamfara states before he moved to Abeokuta. Following his arrest, he is now in the custody of the DSS who are interrogating him.

One DSS source added that it was intelligence gathering gave the Boko Haram agent away, and he was promptly apprehended before he succeeded in Abeokuta. He added that there are still many of other such terrorists out there carrying out surveillance who are currently being monitored.
