Opinion poll puts Peter Obi ahead of Tinubu and Atiku as Nigeria's presidential election looms

FORMER Anambra State governor Peter Obi is leading all other presidential contenders running in Nigeria's elections according to the findings of a opinion poll conducted by NOI Polls this week.

Next February, Nigerians go to the polls to elect a new president and Peter Obi, the Labour Party's presidential candidate is one of the frontrunners in the contest. Other major contenders in the election are former vice president Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, former Lagos State governor Asiwaju Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Kano State governor Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party.

According to the poll commissioned by Anap Foundation, the presidential election will be a three-horse race between Governor Obi, Asiwaju Tinubu and Alhaji Abubakar. Senator Kwankwaso of the NNPP came fourth in the poll and was described as a dark horse in the race.

An Anap Foundation spokesman said: “The results showed a significant lead for Mr Peter Obi with 21% of voters proposing to vote for him if the presidential election were to be conducted today and 13% each proposing to vote for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Alhaji Atiku Abubakar who are both tied in second place. Dr Rabiu Kwankwaso was a distant fourth with 3% of voters proposing to vote for him.”

Nigeria will hold her presidential elections in February 2023 with campaigns set to start at the end of September. Governor Obi is currently on a speaking tour of North America and Europe, which has given him maximum exposure of social media.
