Super Eagles threaten to boycott next Nations Cup qualifier in June over unpaid bonuses

MEMBERS of the Super Eagles have threatened to boycott Nigeria's next 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Sierra Leone taking place in June unless their unpaid bonuses and allowances are paid up by then.

Nigeria has so far played four of its six African Cup of nations qualifiers but the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is owing the players money. After their last match away to Guinea-Bissau on Monday, the NFF  failed to pay the outstanding bonuses and allowances as its had promised to do before the game.

With no sign that the matter will be resolved soon, the players are now ready to boycott the game against the Leone Stars to show their displeasure over the actions of the NFF. Apparently, the Super Eagles are owed bonuses and allowances for at least 19 matches running over two years.

Their next encounter against Sierra Leone is slated for Sunday, June 11, 2023, from which a point will suffice to qualify Nigeria for the 2024 African Cup of Nations. Nigeria currently tops her group with nine points from four games, with Guinea-Bissau in second place with seven points.
