Glasgow Celtic weigh up possible move for American-born Nigerian striker Eduvie Ikoba

SCOTTISH Premiership champions Celtic are being linked with a summer move for American-born Nigerian striker Eduvie Ikoba with a view to signing him from his Hungarian club Zalaegerszegi during the forthcoming transfer window.

Ikoba, 25, has caught the eyes of at least two clubs in the top 10 European Leagues on the back of an outstanding season at Zalaegerszegi, during which he has scored 13 goals and registered two assists in 32 appearances. According to Yanks Abroad, Celtic in Scotland and Stuttgart in Germany's Bundesliga are both interested in the tall forward.

Last summer, Ikoba returned for a second spell at Zalaegerszegi and his goals have seen him become a hot commodity in the market. He still has two years left on his contract with  the 2023 Hungarian Cup winners, so the club is expected to cash in on the player of the right offer comes in.

Ikoba said: "I'm not sure what my future will hold yet, whether I’ll stay or whether I’ll go but I’m just going to assume that I’ll be here at Zalaegerszegi until I hear something different or a contract comes. Maybe I can take another step in my career but who knows.

"I would definitely consider that option but it's not beneficial for a professional athlete to think too far ahead, so now I’m just taking it one game at a time. I’d like to finish the season in a good way, then in the summer I’m sure I’ll talk with the club and my agent about everything else."

After his original contract at Zalaegerszegi expired in 2020, Ikoba moved to Slovak club AS Trencin, where he scored 12 goals in 57 matches across two seasons. Born in America, Ikoba is eligible to play for the US national team too.
