Tinubu and Shettima directed to declare their assets before May 29 or face dire consequences

NIGERIA'S president-elect Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and his deputy Senator Kashim Shettima have been directed by the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) to declare their assets before the May 29 inauguration and swearing-in ceremony.

Next Monday, Asiwaju Tinubu and Senator Shettima will be sworn-in as Nigeria's 16th president and vice president after what will be the nation’s seventh transition ceremony. It will be attended by foreign heads of state and government as well as past presidents, diplomats, heads of international organisations, prominent Nigerians and representatives of global agencies.

With the date fast approaching, the CCB has asked the two of them, as well as incoming state governors to declare their assets before May 29. Mustapha Musa, the special assistant to CCB chairman Mohammed Isah, said the bureau had already issued the asset declaration forms to all newly elected and re-elected public officers and there would be consequences if they default.

Mr Musa said: “As an agency of government, we have already done our work according to the constitutional mandate. We have issued assets declaration forms to the newly elected and returning public officers.

“However, since asset declaration administration is a continuous process, we have started receiving some completed forms from some of them while some are yet to return theirs. The constitution is clear on defaulters,  hence they should declare before they are sworn-in or they face the consequences.”
