Nigeria-eligible teenage fullback Leo Duru signs new contract with Blackburn Rovers

ENGLISH Championship side Blackburn Rovers have signed a new professional contract with Nigeria-eligible teenage fullback Leo Duru that will keep him at the club until June 2024 with the option of an additional 12 months.

Described as a strong and attacking fullback, Duru, 18, has put pen to paper on his first professional contract with Blackburn Rovers. In doing so, he has followed in the footsteps of academy teammates Charlie Olson, Adam Caddick and Ben Fyles, who have all extended their stays with the Lancashire club.

Duru joined Blackburn Rovers' U10 team and progressed through the ranks before making his competitive debut for the U18s against Leeds United in February 2021 while still a schoolboy. He has since forced his way into Blackburn Rovers development squad starting 11, making seven starts for Mike Sheron’s side in the recently-concluded season.

Earlier this month, Duru was in the Rovers side beaten by Brentford in the final of the Premier League Cup.  Born in Manchester, he is eligible to play international football for Nigeria, England and the US but has no caps to his name.
