Ayo Akinfe

[1] On a daily basis, Nigeria witnesses horrific accidents on her roads, many of them involving trailers. Surely, our transport policy has got to be based on moving freight off the road and on to rail to help cut such deaths

[2] No country anywhere on earth has ever industrialised without a modern and efficient railway service. Nigeria’s lack of a modern railway network is a mirror reflection of how unserious we are when it comes to manufacturing

With the Dangote refinery now taking over as the main operator in the Nigerian petroleum sector, we need to find a new role for the NNPC

Ayo Akinfe

[1] With the Dangote refinery poised to take over as Nigeria’s main source of petrol products, this is the time to cannibalise the NNPC and convert it into an industrial concern

[2] Dangote’s Lekki refinery has effectively made the three dormant NNPC refineries needless. We have to now convert the Warri, Port Harcourt and Kaduna refineries into manufacturing plants churning out finished goods

Surely this current petrol crisis should force the Nigerian government to step up the introduction of a clean energy bill aimed at wooing us off fossil fuels

Ayo Akinfe

[1] As from January 1 2025, no building in Nigeria will be granted a Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) unless it has solar panels installed on its roof

[2] As from 2027, all buildings in Nigeria must have solar panels installed on their roofs. Not having one will attract prosecution with the risk of the property being forfeited to the federal government

With these lengthy petrol queues and high fuel prices, it is time we started thinking about alternative modes of transport. Here are some options for President Tinubu to consider

Ayo Akinfe

[1] A high speed rail network to be constructed across the country over the next 20 years linking all 36 states

[2] Road maintenance is to be given back to the states. The Federal Ministry of Works will ensure funds are disbursed to state governments to cater for stretches that fall within their domains. This will enable states to levy tolls to discourage private car usage
