Since 1996, however, when the old Borgu Province was handed to Niger State, Kwara has become overwhelmingly Yoruba. I for one have argued that its name should be changed to Oya State (The Yoruba’s call River Niger Odo Oya) and it should be part of the southwest geo-political zone.
