Calvin Bassey undergoes medical with Fulham ahead of his unveiling this weekend

SUPER Eagles centreback Calvin Bassey has completed the first part of his first medical with English Premier league side Fulham ahead of his impending transfer to the club in preparation for the start of the 2023/24 season.

Over the last few weeks, Bassey's current club, Ajax of Amsterdam, have been involved in talks with Fulham and the two sides have finally reached a deal. Bassey, 23, joined Ajax last summer but failed to adjust to the club’s playing style, leading to him being dropped from the starting line-up.

This prompted several clubs to enquire about his availability, with Premier League sides Fulham and Brighton leading the way. Fulham and Brighton have now agreed a €21m fee for the player  and he travelled to the US for his medical yesterday.

Brighton will be disappointed with the development as they were in the mix, as they were looking for a replacement for loanee Levi Colwill, who looks primed to remain at Chelsea. According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Bassey has completed the first part of his medical and they just need to complete some minor details before the transfer to Fulham is sealed.

In fact, the transfer is supposed to be completed and Bassey should be announced as a Fulham player on Saturday. Bassey is expected to take over Anglo-Nigerian defender Tosin Adarabioyo’s place in the Fulham backline as the latter is set to join French side Monaco.
