Newly-promoted English Premier League Side Sheffield United want Chuba Akpom

NEWLY-promoted English Premier League club Sheffield United are hoping to sign Nigerian-born former Arsenal striker Chuba Akpom from Middlesbrough before the close of the current summer transfer window.

Akpom, 27, who had a remarkable campaign with Boro last season, scoring 28 goals in the Championship, broke the club’s record for the highest number of goals in a league season. Unfortunately, his brilliance was not enough for Boro to gain promotion to the Premier League, as they were knocked out in the playoffs.

Following his successful campaign, there have been talks linking Akpom with a transfer away from Middlesbrough, especially as his contract at the club will expire at the end of the season. Everton and Crystal Palace have come up as potential destinations, with the two clubs searching for attacking options but nothing concrete has come up yet.

Akpom stated his desire to remain at the club this season but he did not reveal if he would sign a new deal or not. His revelation has still not ended talks about his future, as fresh reports from football journalist Alan Nixon suggest that Sheffield United are seriously interested in signing him.

However, Akpom could come cheap, especially as Middlesbrough would not want him to leave for free next summer. He could cost the blades around €8m to  €12m if the two sides can reach a transfer agreement.
