NEWLY-promoted English Premier League side Luton Town have assigned team numbers to the two Nigeria-eligible players in their squad Gabriel Osho and Elijah Adebayo indicating that both of them are likely to see some action during the forthcoming season.
In May, Luton Town were promoted to the Premier League after beating Coventry City 6-5 on penalties following a nervy 1-1 draw in the Championship play-off at Wembley Stadium. After a 31 year absence from the top flight, Luton will bet their Premier League return underway next Saturday away at Brighton.
As preparations pick up for the memorial day, the club has assigned squad numbers to all of its players, with Osho getting the number two jersey and Adebayo being given shirt number 11. Osho wore shirt number 32 for the last two seasons and being given the prestigious number two indicates that he will be the first choice rightback this season.
Luton Town's number two jersey has been worn by the likes of Cody Drameh, James Bree, Martin Cranie, James Justin, Stephen O'Donnell, Fraser Franks, Lathaniel Rowe-Turner, Dan Gleeson and Claude Gnakpa in the past. Osho played a key role as the Hatters secured promotion to the top-flight last season, making 30 appearances, while Adebayo was involved in 45 matches, including 42 starts.
Adebayo has been wearing number 11 since the 2021/22 campaign, which was his first full season with Luton Town after transferring from Walsall. Two other players with Nigerian backgrounds Ross Barkley and Chiedozie Ogbene have been assigned the numbers six and seven shirts respectively.
