SCOTTISH Premiership club Livingston have signed former Flying Eagles and Katsina United midfielder Samson Lawal on a three year deal in what looks like the beginning of a promising career.
Lawal, 19, was one of the standout players under coach Ladan Bosso at the last U20 World Cup and African Nations Cup where he shone like a thousand stars. He played all four of Nigeria’s games at the Nations Cup and scored one goal and then put in a similar stellar performance at the U20 World Cup in Argentina.
That tournament served as a launchpad for the career of some players, as Solomon Agbalaka recently sealed a transfer to Russian side Sochi. Now, Lawal. the tireless midfielder becomes the second Nigerian to sign for the Livingstone, following in the footsteps of former Super Eagles defender Efe Ambrose.
Lawal also joins the likes of Leon Balogun, Cyriel Dessers, and Nnamdi Ofoborh, who play their trade in the Scottish Premiership. Livingston are a mid-table club in the Premiership, who have not won a trophy since they won the Scottish Challenge Cup in 2015, finishing seventh in the league last season.
Livingstone manager David Martindale, said: "I’m excited as to what Samson will bring to the group of players we currently have here at the club. He has played a number of positions in his short career and most recently with ourselves in a couple of bounce games as a six and he was fantastic there too.
“He’s a very versatile footballer who has not long turned 19 and I genuinely believe there is a huge amount of development still to come from Samson."
