ENGLISH Premier League giants Liverpool are hoping to clinch the signing of Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi from Leicester City before the close of the summer transfer deadline tomorrow.
Last season, Leicester got relegated from the English Premier League and the club has been looking to sell Ndidi in a bid to reduce its wage bill. One of Leicester's high earners, Ndidi is said to be on £76,000 a week and several clubs have made enquiries about him over the summer but so far, none has been able to seal a deal with Leicester.
Liverpool are looking for an established replacement for Brazilian midfielder Fabinho, who left the club to join Saudi Arabia giants Al-Hilal this window. They have already brought in Alexis MacAllister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Wataru Endo but Endo is the only natural defensive-minded option and with Endo needing time to settle in England, they now could turn to Ndidi.
Apparently, the Foxes are willing to do business before the close of the window, which could pave the way for a deal to be agreed with Liverpool before tomorrow’s deadline. A few days ago, it was reported that Ndidi had given the green light for a move to Nottingham Forest, with personal terms already sorted between him and the club.
Since being relegated, Leicester have lost Youri Tielemans to Aston Villa, James Maddison to Tottenham and Nampals Mendy as a free agent. Apart from Ndidi, several clubs are also making enquiries about compatriot Kelechi Iheanacho, who might also leave on deadline day tomorrow.
