PDP says it will expel Wike at the appropriate time for accepting Tinubu's appointment

NIGERIA'S main opposition the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has revealed that it will expel the current Federal Capital Territory (FCT) minister Nyesom Wike at the appropriate time for taking up a government appointment.

Despite being a member of the PDP, Governor Wike turned against PDP’s presidential candidate Alhaji Atiku Abubakar in the last election and worked for President Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Following the success of Bola Tinubu of the APC in the presidential elections, Mr Wike was nominated as the FCT minister as a reward for his support.

However, Mr Wike's nomination has raised eyebrows within the PDP as several party members have asked why disciplinary action has not been taken against him. Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme, PDP spokesman Daniel Bwala, said Mr Wike would be expelled from the party at the appropriate time.

Recently, Mr Wike, a former Rivers State governor, had dared the PDP leadership to suspend or expel him from the party for supporting the election of President Tinubu.  However, Mr Bwala said that the quietness of the PDP does not imply weakness, assuring that Mr Wike would not only be suspended but expelled.

Mr Bwala said: “Why we hardly react to what he says is because he loves drama, everybody knows that the quietness of the party is not weakness, the party knows what it is doing.

"At the appropriate time, he (Wike) would not only be suspended but expelled. Take that to the bank."
