SUPER Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi will miss Nigeria's forthcoming friendlies against Saudi Arabia and Mozambique taking place later this month after his club Nottingham Forest revealed that he will be out of action for a month after picking up a groin injury.
Awoniyi, 26, has had a good start to the season, scoring three goals and providing two assists in seven appearances for Forest in the Premier League so far. Of late, however, he has gone off the boil a bit as he has gone five consecutive games without scoring and will now have to wait a bit longer before finding the back of the net again.
This means that the striker will miss out on international action too as later this month, the Super Eagles have a double header against Saudi Arabia and Mozambique in Portugal. Their first game against Saudi Arabia comes up on October 13 while the second game with Mozambique will take place on October 16.
Forest head coach Steve Cooper confirmed Awoniyi's injury ahead of his side’s Saturday’s Premier League clash at Crystal Palace, which ended 0-0. The last time Awoniyi scored for Forest was on August 26 in a 3-2 loss to Manchester United at Old Trafford.
