Aribo reveals that Southampton rejected a bid from Turkish giants Galatasaray for his services

SUPER Eagles midfielder Joe Aribo has revealed that his current club Southampton rejected a bid for his services from Turkish giants Galatasaray during the last summer transfer window.

Aribo, 27, moved to the then-English Premier League club during the 2022 summer transfer window for a fee of around €7.1m following standout performances with Scottish side Glasgow Rangers. At the end of last season, however, Southampton got relegated to the English Championship and several clubs made offers for Aribo but the Saints refused to let him go, considering a vital to their promotion bid.

However, changes in management appear to have limited Aribo’s playing time as he seldom gets into coach Ruben Selles’s starting line-up these days. Since the return of Southampton to the English Championship, Aribo has spent more time on the field for the Nigerian national team than for his clubside.

Aribo’s contract with Southampton is set to expire in 2026, potentially presenting the Hampshire-based club with an opportunity to cash in on him. Aribo will be hoping to establish himself during the forthcoming Africa Cup of Nations, where scouts will be closely watching  players in action, in the hope that it will lead to him securing a move.
