Spurs manager steps up his interest in Wilfred Ndidi with a view to signing him next summer

ENGLISH Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspurs have emerged as new contenders looking to sign Super Eagles anchorman Wilfred Ndidi during the next summer transfer window alongside Catalan giants Barcelona.

Currently playing for English Championship side Leicester City, who got relegated at the end of last season, Ndidi, has been the subject of a few enquiries. His contract with Leicester runs until the end of the season and a potential renewal will largely depend on whether the team remains in contention for an immediate return to the Premier League.

Ndidi, 26, was linked with a move away from the Foxes last season and while players like James Maddison, Harvey Barnes and Timothy Castagne all left following their relegation. However, he stayed at the club and so far this season, Ndidi has made 15 appearances in all competitions, registering three goals and four assists.

He has helped Leicester go top of the table with 13 wins from their first 16 outings but this good form has attracted attention too. Barcelona’s financial crisis has been well documented and the La Liga giants are looking to sign Ndidi on a free transfer as has been the club’s tradition over the last two seasons.

Under the Bosman ruling, Barcelona will be able to strike a contract agreement with Ndidi in January ahead of a free transfer next summer. However, the Catalans are not the only side interested in Ndidi after reports emerged that Tottenham manager, Ange Postecoglou, has also shown keen interest in the midfielder.

According to UK sports publication Teamtalk, Postecoglou does not consider Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg the right man for his system and is willing to bring Ndidi to the club. Barcelona and Tottenham are not the only clubs monitoring the contract situation, with reports suggesting that Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid and Juventus, who enquired about signing Ndidi over the summer, are still interested.
